Review: Elsa's Skin Foods Natural Deodorant

When I first started using natural deodorants, they were a bit hit and miss. I became convinced that it was a myth that they could ever work and occasionally dipped back into my Superdrug deodorant on high-stress days. Now I can say it's been well over six months of no looking back to aluminium deodorants thanks to the amazing brands I've found. Elsa's Skin Foods goes directly into my top three favourites.

Reading the literature that came with this deodorant puts everything into perspective as to why you should use a natural deodorant if you are not yet convinced. The diagram below shows a blocked pore after using anti-perspirant, a formulation that contains aluminium and (sometimes) parabens.
The next diagram shows a sweat pore while wearing natural deodorant. When I visited a breast surgeon recently, which is a fairly common occurrence for me as I suffer with painful breast cysts, I took the opportunity to ask him his opinion on the safety of anti-perspirants. He told me that methylparaben in anti-perspirants causes cancer. I was so surprised that he immediately named this as the villain of the piece, rather than aluminium, that I didn't manage to question him further (plus he had his hands on my boobs at the time which distracted me somewhat, or I might have started asking him how many of his patients wore natural deodorants).

So how was this deo? Firstly, I haven't used too many roll-on natural deos as a lot of them come in a jar that you apply with your fingers (which I don't mind actually), so this was a novel treat. The product is nice and soft so you don't have to hold it for long against the pit for it to soften and you can swipe it on. I must confess that initially I was using much more than the 1-2 recommended swipes as I was convinced it wouldn't work lol and I was still using 2 or 3 at the end of the stick.
Ocean is a lovely fresh-scented deo where you can really smell the peppermint and the tea tree oils and so it would be great for men and teenage boys as well as women as it is fairly man-ish. More importantly, at the end of the day, all you can smell on your clothes and your pits, is the smell of Ocean, rather than B.O. A totally remarkable product and one which I will use again and again! Elsa's Skin Foods is a delight and I can't wait to try the other variations.
